Seconds seem like a lifetime when the life you lived is slowly drained out of you by those who care not what you felt, hoped, or dreamed. When the darkness comes it is all-consuming; there is no light and there is no pain. It is the never-ending loss of hope that now consumes me as I die in his arms.
There are things that go bump in the night…things that only exist in your imagination, but for Abigail Martin her imagination couldn’t have dreamed up the nightmare that became her life. One stupid book, one stupid movie and suddenly her whole world is tipped on it’s end. At sixteen she has everything she has ever known ripped away from her, she has no parents, no money and she needs to leave this town fast, otherwise she might be the next victim of a deranged serial killer obsessed with a novel about vampires. Yes, vampires. The thing every teenage girl seems to be obsessed with, that is except for Abigail…who changes her name, gets a job and starts fighting her way in the real world. Now as Vera MacIntrye she’s strong, independent and beautiful– the exact things that attract Tad Knightley to her. He’s handsome and smart; he’s just gotten his degree in teaching and Vera can’t visit resist. The funny thing about being so incandescently happy is sometimes it makes you forget everything, even the first day at your new school or the first day of your new job. When Vera walks into Tad’s classroom all that happiness is drained away in an instant and they are faced with the very real challenge of forgetting each others feelings while seeing each other everyday. How long can they keep up the farce when the serial killer heads right in the direction of its next target–Vera.
