Deftones December Wrap Up

Deftones December Wraps up 2012

It’s pretty great that by accident I am going to wrap up my last blog post of 2012 with a prolific band, whose lifetime is actually longer than my own. That’s right, Deftones, is older than I am. Now, this may not seem very significant because there are plenty of musicians that withstand the test of time like Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, The Beatles and Sting, but I kid you not it is. This is a metal band, and I can honestly say that there aren’t many metal bands that I know of (which I am not all knowing so I may be completely wrong in this statement) that have most of their original members, especially after 24 some odd years. Heck, most people don’t even stay married that long. Deftones inspires me not only because of their music but because of their success. The metal scene is not an easy one to make a mark on, let along a mark so long, that even includes Grammy Nominations. They do what they love with a no bars, if you don’t like it sc**w you attitude. They’ve changed lives, maybe saved lives, unknowingly. They’ve inspired many and kept people going. The band has had it’s far share of mishaps too, Chino blew out his vocal chords  in 2001 and a tragic accident left bassist Chi Cheng in a coma in 2008 that he has yet to fully recover from. With such challenges the band still produced a total of seven CD’s to date. This isn’t counting the other bands lead singer Chino has produced, and the side bands that the members have formed. One of my other favorite bands is Team Sleep, lead singer, Chino. At the end of 2012 this inspires me to keep writing, to stay strong and to continue to stand out with unique writing. Maybe someday my name will be uttered as much as Deftones is (Cloud +9).

White Pony OR Deftones OR Around the Fur…it’s really hard to pick.

What’s my husband’s favorite?

Same answer.

The hard part would be choosing the last song the wrap up the year with, the last song for the month, so I’m letting my Pandora Deftones’ Station do it for me:

SONG: Good Morning Beautiful

CD: Deftones

LYRICS:

One of these days you’ll break me of many things
Some cold white day,
But you’re crazy if you think I would leave you This wayYou
Should wake up (Wake up)
Before the wrath comes
Me and you could take off (Take off)
Before the wrath comes, soonAnd one of these days I pray it will be sometime soon
On a day like today,
You’d be crazy not to want me to teach you
The wayYou
Should wake up (Wake up)
Before the wrath comes
Me and you could take off (Take off)
Before the wrath comes, please

Well I know what you’re like
I’ve read it on the walls
You’re too tired, you choose heaven over the
Earth and me but come on
Please

You
Should wake up (Wake up)
Before the wrath comes
Me and you could take off (Take off)
Before the wrath comes
Well maybe you should take off
Yeah you should take off (Take off)

You know what, instead of giving you analysis, I am going to give you the pleasure of another Deftones song.

SONG: Hexagram

CD: Deftones

LYRICS:

Paint the streets in white
Death is the standard breach for a complex prize
I think it’s sweet of you and your parents are proud
But I would expect it from anyone now to protect life’s indigenous sound…

Worship, play, play (3x)
Worship, play, Worship, play///Worship-Worship///
Play and worship, Play, Play (3x)
Play and worship, Play///Worship-Worship///

How the streets they swell
While the animals make their way through the crowds
If you keep listening you can hear it for miles
And trust everyone quicker with every faint smile….

Worship, play, play
Worship, play, Worship, play
Play and worship, Play, Play
Play and worship, Play, Play///Worship-Worship///(3x)
Play and worship, Play, Play (3x)
Play and worship, Play///Worship-Worship///

And the crowd goes wild
And the camera makes you seasick
God it’s so sweet of you and I know you’re proud
And the car bomb hits quick click, click, click, faint smile…

It’s the same sound… it’s the same, same… sound….

And the crowd goes wild
And the camera makes you seasick
God it’s so sweet of you and you know I’m proud
And the car bomb tick ticks with the same sounds
It’s the same sound
With the same sound… hexagram

2013 New Years Resolution: Kick books, stand out and stand strong just like Deftones has.

Thank you to my readers who will be the ones who make that possible.
